Photos: The Diversity of Patagonia

This lighthouse is along the Beagle Channel neat the tip of South America.  The Beagle Channel was named after the H.M.S. Beagle, the ship on which Charles Darwin made his studies of geology, botany and zoology that laid the groundwork for his book many years later about evolution.  Darwin spent most of the voyage, which took several years, on land excursions collecting samples.
The Perito Moreno Glacier  borders Lago Argentina.  Boat excursions across the lake allow up close views of the glacier and hikes on the glacier.
This is another view of the Beagle Channel, with mountains near Ushuaia, Argentina in the distance.
The shapes and colors of the Perito Moreno glacier are captivating up close.
Penguins live on the banks of the Beagle Channel.

Lago Argentino and Ushuaia are some distance apart but between them they show off the wild beauty of Patagonia well.
