The villas in Bellagio and elsewhere along the shores of Lake Como are delightful to visit. Some are palatial. Some have smaller buildings in the gardens, such as the one above at Villa Serbelloni, which has a rich, weathered patina. The gardens at Villa Serbelloni include a forest. The villa occupies the crest of the hill above Bellagio, with 12 miles (18 km) of paths to stroll and admire the details of the forest and garden. When not contemplating the gardens, why not enjoy the view? This is a view from Villa Serbelloni northward up Lake Como to the Alps of Switzerland. St. Moritz is not too far over the snow-capped peaks in the distance. People who have stayed at Villa Serbelloni, which dates from the 1400's, include Leonardo da Vinci, Queen Victoria, and John Kennedy. The Villa Melzi sits on the shore of Lake Como in Bellagio. This is the area behind the villa where carriages and other equipment was stored. The mansion of Villa Melzi was built in the 1700's and has hosted Napoleon, Emperor Franz Joseph, and other dignitaries.

I love all these, especially the Villa Melzi carriage area. I wonder if it was there in the ancient Roman times?
