This week we return to sharing some more photos of wildlife in Tanzania, beginning with this eagle who was perched in a tree above a river where a bunch of hippos were frolicking.
If you were to guess where this scenery is, would you guess any place Africa? I didn't think so.
This was one of several female lions hanging out in a large tree. Our guide told us that there was certainly a male lion under the same tree, but the tall grasses obscured our view. And no, we did not walk up close to the tree to get a better look.
This mother and baby baboon were among a large group that scurried across the dirt road in the Serengeti.
We saw great herds of wildlife. We were int he Serengeti in February, the time of the annual migration of millions of wildebeast and hundreds of thousands of zebra. The herd of gazelles in this photo liked to stay together. Perhaps they think they will have safety in numbers.
The birds are colorful. His chest looks like a robin, but his wings and back are tropical.
This is the road down into the the Ngorongoro Crater, the world's largest caldera and the remnants of the volcano whose eruption created the Serengeti Plain. The wildlife in the crater does not need to migrate because there is water there all year.

I envy you on this trip. Very nice series.
Wow, the lions in the tree would encourage you to look up while walking but if the male is in the grass maybe that is not a good idea. Riding in a vehicle at a safe distance is the best plan.
