Photos: The Theaters and Architecture of Chicago

This week we are showing photos of Chicago at night. The top photo is the theater district. Chicago cannot match New York theater, but it has excellent live theater compared to most American cities, and we have seen some memorable plays there, in both large and small venues.
Looking through the windows of office buildings at night can yield results, such as the ornate ceiling of this building on Michigan Avenue, across from Millennium Park.
This is the top of the Trump building, photographed from the cocktail lounge at the top of the John Hancock building, at sunset, with a zoom lens, of course, as these buildings are on opposite ends of the Magnificent Mile.
This shows part of the skyline of Chicago reflected in the shiny stainless steel of the Could Gate sculpture, commonly known as the "bean" in Millennium Park. The sculpture was constructed between 2004 and 2006 by artist Anish Kapoor. It is made of 168 stainless steel plates that were welded together and high polished so that there are no visible seams. It is 66 feet (20 m) long and 42 feet (13 m) high, and people can walk under it in the middle.
This is the band shell in Millenium Park, with part of the skyline behind it. It is the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, named for the family that owns Hyatt Hotels, and I assume that they donated a lot of money for this. It was designed by Frank Gehry, as is obvious from its style, similar to the Disney Concert Hall in L.A. or the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain.
In contrast to the modern architecture of the last few photos, this final photo in the series shows the illuminated tops of the flying buttresses of the Chicago Tribune Tower on the right, and the clock tower of the Wrigley Building on the left, two classics of Chicago architecture that anchor the two sides of Michigan Avenue on the north side of the Chicago River.

Chicago is an under-rated city. Nice shots, love the reflections in the fourth image.
