We return this week for a few more photos from my trip to Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, for the Canadian Thanksgiving in early October. It is nice to have Thanksgiving occuring at the same time as the fall colors. Thanksgiving in the USA comes too late for fall colors in most places.
The turning leaves are delightful regardless of whether it is a hillside forest or small twig that is displaying the fall colors.
So many of the houses in rural Nova Scotia look so lonely against the backdrop of forest, sea and sky. People here are self-reliant and hearty.
I like to slow down my shutter speed to 1/15th of a second or slower, turn my f-stop high, and use my tripod to take a photo slow enough to blur the waterfall and capture the ribbony effect of moving water. I recently bought a filter that is like sunglasses for the camera to take slower photos on bright days, but I have not yet needed to use the filter.
We took a couple of days to drive around the Cabot Trail on the northern end of Cape Breton Island, which is the northern part of Nova Scotia. The trees were more colorful on our drive back than our drive out, having become more instense within just two days.
