The Faces and Architecture of India

The people of India are delightful and riveting. The gaze of this woman attracted us like a magnet. She was on the grounds of the Red Fort in Delhi.
This sadhu was just outside the walls of the Jantar Mantar in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The colorful clothes worn by people in India are very attractive. The style and color of the turban varies depending on the regional traditions and the religious and social status of the wearer.
A guard sits in a doorway to the City Palace in Jaipur, which dates to the 1700's. The palace is now a museum.
This man was taking a nap on a window ledge over a lake in Udaipur, also in Rajasthan. We took this photo from a boat.
Some of the architectural details of the Jami Masjid, the largest mosque in Delhi. It was built in the 1650's and can accommodate 20,000 worshipers.
The palaces of India present endless photographic opportunities, like this moment at the Fatehpur Sikri, a Mughal walled city build in the 1570's outside of Agra.
The streets and sidewalks of India are full of food vendors, such as these in Jaipur.
This charming woman was sweeping the grounds of Saheliyon ki Bari in Udaipur. Saheliyon ki Bari translates as "Gardens of the Maids of Honor. It was built for a queen of Udaipur in the 1700's. It must have been quite a wedding, as she had a dowry that included 48 maids. Have you seen a person whose job is to sweep sidewalks dress in such a lovely fashion to go to work?
Here is another street vendor selling food. Many of the streets and sidewalks of India are crowded with street vendors and shoppers.
