The Serenity of Recoleta in Buenos Aires, Argentina

The Basilica Nuestra Senora del Pillar Church in the Recoleta district of Buenos Aires dates to Spanish colonial times. It is a popular site for weddings on Saturday evenings. Recoleta is an elegant neighborhood of Buenos Aires, which richly deserves its nickname as the Paris of Latin America.
The Recoleta Cemetery is adjacent to the Pilar Church. It contains many elaborate tombs and mausoleums of many of Argentina's most prominent families.
The Recoleta Cemetery is like a city of tombs, with walkways laid out like streets and mausoleums constructed like buildings.
Cats live among the dead in the cemetery.
Recoleta is the site of a weekend market with lots or art and crafts for sale. We have purchased several paintings from the artist whose booth is shown in this photo.
Florida Street is a pedestrian street and major shopping district of Buenos Aires. The Galleria Pacifico is located on this street, as are many other stores that cater to residents and tourists. This photo shows that Buenos Aires is a vibrant city pulsating with the activity of nearly 12 million residents of the metropolitan area.

Thank you for this tour of Buenos Aires. I particularly loved the city of tombs and the cats who live there. Beautiful.

La Recoleta Cemetery has some of the most amazing tombs I have seen. Eva Peron's is no big deal compared to others on the main 'streets'.
Love the second composition, but all shots are great!

This is a great series - the tombs, the purple flowers, the patterned tile. Really nice. Thanks for inviting me to visit :)
